Clearly, we need changes going forward in order to keep fascism like this from happening again. Our country can no longer go back to isolationist behavior. The dollar is the global standard, and isolationism will end that and truly devalue our currency and kill our economy. Even with changes, it will take decades to fix the mess our country willingly created, to regain the world trust we have lost and continue to lose everyday. But, let’s start with the list of things that most of society can agree on and which should be implemented as soon as we can:
- Create and enforce term limits in all areas of government
- Overturn Citizens United, end lobbying
- Remove money from politics (there are other options)
- End and enforce ban on elected officials trading stocks while in office
- Create and enforce standards of conduct for SCOTUS, Congress, President
- AI oversight
- Equal rights – for women (including abortion), for LGBTQ+, for POC
- Universal Healthcare
- Fix our housing crisis
- Renewable energy
- Rank choice voting over the electoral college
These are just things that 70% of US citizens believe, in some form or fashion. We need to put people in positions to make these things happen. Even after we get over the current problems, we’ll need to put these in the spotlight, and we’ll need to protest and push to get these things in place. Each and every one of these issues has overwhelming support. But we will need to make them happen, because the current list of politicians on both sides will fight all of these. But, let’s find someone who can drive on these issues, run on these issues, and start making these issues law.
